A Virginia native, but true Wisconsin Badger, Tara Ingalls is actually a self-taught graphic designer. After graduating from UW-Madison in December 1997 with a double major in Communication Arts and Journalism, Tara started working at a local ad agency but soon found she was drawn more to the graphic arts area rather than account executive work. She left the agency, but continued to dabble in graphic design, eventually leading her to the Corporate Communications department with WPS Health Insurance in Madison. There she worked diligently for three years to master the ins-and-outs of page layout in QuarkXpress. Tara began offering freelance graphic design services in 1999 and quickly developed a niche in Madison offering high-end, eye-catching designs with unheard of turnaround. What started as a freelance business quickly grew into Tingalls Dzyn, which over a decade later touts a client base of 500 and continues to grow. Tingalls Dzyn specializes in start-up, small business and nonprofit branding and website design. Tara enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters and her favorite pastime is going to the movies. She was recently able to live a childhood dream of driving Indy open-wheel racecar.
Young entrepreneur and seasoned graphic artist Tara Ingalls takes students through the world of graphic design. Not long ago Tara was a young graduate not sure what to do with her advertising degree. But soon a chance to dabble in graphic design caught her eye and eventually led to her start her own firm, Tingalls Dzyn. Tara shares insight on what it takes to be a successful designer and offers tips to students looking to take their computer art skills to the business world. (Running Time 22:11)
