Biography:
Marty Hallock, along with his wife, Becky, own and operate Mar-Bec Dairy in Mondovi, Wis. Marty began his college years with the intent of becoming a veterinarian, but he soon turned to the idea of owning his own animals instead of caring for others. Upon graduating with a degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in dairy, Marty began his dream of running a dairy operation. He started in 1990 with 40 cows on rented land. After 22 years and several expansions, today the Hallock’s milk 780 Holsteins, raise all their own heifers—about 800 of them—and custom hire the field work for more than 1,200 acres of alfalfa and corn. This is a first-generation operation, with their two son’s pitching in, including their oldest, a dairy science major attending college. Marty welcomes the help, but is quick to add that “school comes first.”
