Biography:
Martin Coffeen is a construction project manager, and holds a Master of Science in Construction Management; he is credentialed as a PMP, LEED AP, and journeyman carpenter. Martin is also a former U.S. Marine. He has worked in the construction business for 15 years on a wide array of projects, ranging from heavy civil, nuclear, petrochemical, and residential commercial construction. He has experience in cost control, negotiations, contract management, estimation, scheduling, and field management with government and private owners. Martin’s background began in the Marine Corps in 1999 as an Armor and served with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in 29 Palms CA, Okinawa Japan, and in South America. After and honorable discharge from the USMC, Martin moved onto a career as a deep sea commercial diver in the Gulf of Mexico where he learned the trades of commercial diving and oil field construction/salvage. During a recession in 2002 Martin took the slow down as an opportunity to start a business in Nashville, TN and to complete a B.S. in Studio Art with a concentration in organic chemistry. After hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf of Mexico, Martin went back to the Gulf of Mexico to supervise salvage and new construction operations. As cleanup operations slowed down in the Gulf of Mexico, Martin followed his wife moved to New York City. He sold his business and reinvested his money into a Masters Degree at NYU. During his time in New York, Martin worked with the NYC Carpenters Union as a pile driver, welder, and commercial diver. He had the opportunity to work on many high profile projects in the area, from the World Trade Center’s foundations, multiple bridge crossing, high-rise foundations, and Ellis Island. Martin’s wife took a position as a physician at the University of Wisconsin in 2013. At that time, he was finishing a set of foundations in Hell’s Kitchen when he was recruited to manage the construction of a nuclear reactor’s out fall construction. This project took him from NYC to Kansas and after the construction was completed he moved to Madison. Since living in Madison, Martin took his skills on the road and worked in Vietnam as an international business manager, where he sold offshore construction services to Vietnamese based oil companies, and partnered American oilfield construction companies with Vietnamese oilfield service companies. In late 2013, Martin made a move to work with his present employer, InterCon Construction in Madison WI. At InterCon, he manages construction contracts with various oil and gas companies, plans major construction projects, and manages the same projects.
