I am a manager at Smith & Gesteland, LLP, an accounting and business advisory firm. My focuses lie mainly within the assurance/audit field, although I do perform a variety of tax related work as well. Smith & Gesteland is more than your ordinary CPA firm, offering business valuation services, 80/20 business consulting, succession planning, fraud prevention, litigation support, sales/use tax expertise, and much more. My experience is primarily within the manufacturing/supply chain industry, with a focus on family businesses. I also have experience with employee benefit plans and fiduciary tax. I am the Treasurer of CONNECT Madison, a young professionals networking group in Madison. Also, I am a foster for Fetch Wisconsin Rescue, a local Madison area rescue.
Contrary to popular belief, a career in accounting doesn't necessarily mean you work on taxes, can do math in your head or that you prefer to work alone. A degree in accounting opens many doors, some of which may surprise you. Andrea Newman shares the opportunities that accounting can provide, while providing a brief overview of her path to becoming a CPA at Smith & Gesteland, LLP.
